Friends,
I read a quote this morning from NBA legend Michael Jordan that read, “I can accept failure, but I can’t accept not trying.”
Sounds good right? But how can we re-frame that? The F word, failure, brings with it so much baggage and none of them are positive.
At NASA, they don’t use the F word, they simply call it, “early attempts at success.”
It’s only failure if you quit. If you keep at it until you accomplish the goal, you didn’t fail, you succeeded.
So why do we throw the F word around so easily? Why do we revert to negative thinking right after an attempt doesn’t go our way?
Let’s re-frame our thoughts and lead with the positive.
In January, I read a book by Ryan Holiday called The Obstacle is the Way, and he writes about not letting challengers or “failures” get in the way of progress and instead they should be welcome as they help guide in the right direction. Highly recommended.
