This weekend, I took note of things that made me happy, or where I made sure to pause and find happiness in the moment. I also found some motivation to work on projects I am putting off.
Reading: I was fortunate enough to get a copy of The Minimum Method by Joey Thurman as a gift on Saturday and started reading immediatly. I’m about 1/4 through the book and it’s been incredible so far and given me simple steps already to sleep better, and start my day smarter.
Frozen Yogurt: Okay, well, I am not eating treats like that right now as I am working on my health goals, but I took my daughter for a short walk to a local frozen yogurt shop. The walk was short, but I ensured I stayed in the moment the whole walk, at the shop, and while we sat outside and talked while she ate. It was a great break from the day and a good way to spend some time together.
Found a New Book! Yes, more book news. While I got some new books this weekend, on my daily three mile walk, I went passed a Little Library and the owners were having a book giveaway to make room in the library. Sittig on the table was Start With Why, by Simon Sinek. I like a lot of Simon’s videos and thoughts on leadership and this was a book I have been wanting to sit down and read. I listed to the audiobook a while back, but as with some audiobooks, I think it was more background than anything and I didn’t take a lot in.
Dropped Stressers: I am a youth hockey coach and coaching comes with a lot of stress and the higher level you coach, the more stress parents put on you to win. They lose focus on player development and only judge you by wins and losses. I decided that I am not playing that game. I am a player development coach, especially at this age level (12 and Under) and those who want wins and not development were told they are free to look for other teams.
Mindfullness: This has been a struggle to really get going, but I made such a good effort this weekend to continue mindful meditation and purposful breathing. Making 5-10 min a day for this really brings my heartrate down, relieves so much anxiety, and centers my mind and allows to me tackle my day or reset myself as needed.
What did you find this weekend that brought you happiness?
